Collect Art Supplies:

It’s that time of year again. Before Christmas last year, NBCP undertook a campaign to collect art supplies for the Indigenous children in the North. It was quite successful, but the supply has dwindled to almost nothing. Art supplies are expensive and well received by the kids in the North.

The above photo shows some of the youth who enjoyed the crafts during the first of three open evenings held at the Community Centre. More than 50 children and youth participated each of the three evenings the groups were held. The second photo shows the children attending an ice-fishing derby as their crafts dried. (Note, there is a dog having a nap in the middle of the action!) Christine wrote, "It was very cold and the snow is about 3 feet deep on top of the lake."

Pukatawagan is a Canadian community about 210 kilometres north of The Pas in Manitoba. It is part of the Mathias Colomb First Nation. It can be reached by train from The Pas by a branch of the Keewatin Railway Company, a passenger service provided by Via Rail. An ice road is utilized after the lakes have frozen, which is how Christine arrived.

Thanks again to everyone who provided art supplies last year. Let’s see if we can double the quantity we can send to the kids in the North this year?
